I am obsessed with boxes. This is a fact. I can admit it. The inspiration for this gift actually came after I bought the box at Michael’s. I loved that it was a smaller size, unique shape and dark moody romantic colors. So, I was thinking to myself, what the heck can I put in this box? Then I figured it out! Essential oils! We all love to receive essential oils because they can be used in so many different ways. I also found a super cute heart shaped rock at a local gift shop. It seemed to go with the boho style of the gift. Earthy. Like the oils. This DIY essential oil gift idea is super easy to put together and has a good impact.

DIY Essential Oil Gift – Supplies

The biggest effort in this gift idea is actually in finding the products you want, not so much the act of putting it together. I found my box at Michael’s and fell in love with the shape and size. But, you don’t have to limit yourself to this exact type of box. You can absolutely get a square or circle, or whatever! First, find your box. That cute one I used was purchased back in February, so they don’t have it up on their site anymore. But you can get the same shape with a different design here.

Then you can determine how much tissue paper you’ll need to fill it. You want to fill it enough to push the essential oils towards the top, so that they’re not floating all around the box. You could be super picky like me and tape them down underneath. My sister loves when I do this. She insists yearly at Christmas that I use too much tape. To which I say, are you the VP in charge of tape conservation or what? Give me a break. Lol.

DIY Essential Oil Gift – The Main Event

Ok. Time to pick the oils. I found a set with a variety of scents. I like to mix it up and I love the ones that feature a feeling. I’m totally the person that believes – ok if this bottle says focus, it will help me focus. I’m sure it’s, like, 90% a placebo effect. But, I don’t care. It works! Lol. I have an option for you from Amazon here to help you in your quest for oils. The set I purchased isn’t available anymore, so I found you an alternative! Finally, add a small token, like the rock I found. It could be something like a small candle or plant. Something on the theme of boho, oils, calming moments, etc. Or, a quartz healing rock! Super fun.

DIY Essential Oil Gift – Wrap it Up

That’s it. Shut your box, tie some ribbon on and you’re good to go! I made a little flower out of raffia to jazz up my box a little. You basically tie a bow, then another bow, then a third and space out the petals until it looks even. You can check out my Instagram video on it here. (It’s fast, I apologize. My first attempt at a time lapse video).

  1. I love essential oils and giving them as gifts. This is a great idea for how to package several oils along with a fun small token as a gift. These would be easy to assemble ahead of time and have on hand for times when you need a quick gift!

    • Hi Dawn! Thanks for reading. You’re right! It’s a good one to have around for last minute gifts needed. Especially with the holidays coming up. We all need a few time savers. 🙂

  2. Such a cute gift idea! I am going to remember this for the person I never know what to get. Don’t worry, I also am one to pick out essential oils by the feeling! haha. Thank you for sharing!

  3. Such a great idea!! I’d love to receive one of these. I think I’ll put one together for my SIL for Christmas.

Kind of off topic, but have you heard of the “kid safe” brand of oils? Are they any good? I get so confused trying to figure out what’s okay to diffuse around my 1.5 year old and 4 year old, and what isn’t okay…

    • Hi Holly! I haven’t heard of those! I’m definitely going to research though! I have heard, however, that it’s not good to diffuse for a long time around the fur babies. Apparently, it’s not too good for them. I try to diffuse in a separate room. I will update the post when I find out about the kid safe oils for sure! Thanks for reading!

  4. Lauren, I love the idea, because it’s the perfect and thoughtful gift for anyone who seems to have everything already!

    • Hi Willow! Totally! It’s a great gift for those types of friends and families because everyone needs a spa day. Or at least wants one!! Lol. Thanks for reading!

  5. I recently started using essential oils and when I read this gift box idea… I fell in love! I have many friends and family members who use oils too, so this is a win! I love all of your gift ideas! You are amazing!

    • OMG Andrea! You’re so sweet, thank you! I know, essential oils will definitely make you fall in love with them! I recently learned from a friend to take some lotion, add tea tree oil and rub on the back and/or side of your neck. It’s AMAZING. totally relaxing! Thanks for reading and thanks for your kind words!
